Make your own Follies Comic

Description

How to make your own Classroom Follies Comic: All you need is this background, an art program that allows layering (I use PaintTool SAI) and some creativity.

1. Come up with a basic premise. This can be some aspect of a character, either in Canon, or Fanon, that you want to emphasize. In CF 7: [link] , my premise was the difference between the new Canon personality of Luna, and the Fanon personality of luna.

2. Draw the characters and props. Human's are visual creatures, so your character drawing, costume, expression, posing, and props will tell most of your story. In CF 7, I used the Hello Kitty phone to mark a clear demarcation between royal public Luna, and cute private Luna. In CF 3, [link] Sweetie Belle's embarassed, knowing expression told the viewer everything that they needed to know about the contents of Rarity's story.

3. Plan out your dialogue. This will tell your story and emphasize the humor. Keep it witty, as short as possible.

4. The background images (aka. the chalkboard) This is probably the hardest part I have with the comics. These images need to either support the message you are trying to convey in the panel, or be independently funny without distracting from the overall comic. some of my best draw upon internet memes, such as Student, I am disappoint here: [link] and most of the images in CF 9 : [link] .

A few notes of caution.
1. avoid being explicit. If you are aiming for an off color message, remember, this is a children's classroom, get close to the point, and let the reader fill in the rest (it's funnnier that way)

2. Keep the comics short. The longer the comic, the harder to stay on topic throughout.

Enjoy making your own Classroom follies comic. if you make one, drop a link to it in the comments (per my open use policy)

If you want a character drawing made for a comic you want to do, I take some requests (based on my current workload) Just ask, and I will let you know if I can help you out.

Enjoy!
