Anyway, a little background on this.
Soon after the founding of Equestria, in the waning years of Clover the Clever's life, The scourge of discord descends on the world. Clover fights alongside the 3 races of equestria, but they are overwhelmed, and Clover retreats into solitude as a hermit.
He is later approached by a young pegacorn named celestia. Pegacorns are rare, but not unheard of. however this one had a rare talent for magic. She, and her infant sister luna barely escaped a purge by the minions of Discord by fleeing into the mountains deep in the everfree forest...
Day 2:
Clover had been studying his former master, Starswirl the bearded, work on the essence of magic, in an attempt to find a way to defeat discord. In the battle against Discord, Clover found that in the presence of some individuals, himself being one of them, Discord's ability to alter the fabric of the world was greatly suppressed. in order to defeat these individuals, Discord had to get them to turn against their base natures, turning the cheerful grumpy, the loyal disloyal, the brave, cowardly.
He, and the former chancellor of the earth ponies, Skyfall, were the last of the great ponies of the age left standing against Discord. the presence of Celestia, and the infant Luna, Skyfall's daughters, meant that he was now the last.
But in his studies of his masters, he learned that the base aspects of harmony of pony magic could be exemplified in individuals. and these individuals could be used to channel those elements into a whole greater than what any one pony can master.
Those elements were generosity, loyalty, honesty, laughter, kindness, and the glue that held them all together, magic.
In finding the ponies who represent these elements, the great ponies of the next age, there can be hope in restoring the order of the world from the chaos of discord
